Allseas has completed the transport and installation of two offshore substations and their supporting suction bucket jackets for 50Hertz’ OST-6-1 offshore grid connection in the German Baltic Sea. The company used Pioneering Spirit for the job.
The Zingst and Darß offshore substations were delivered by the HSI Joint Venture, comprising Smulders HSM and Iv, as part of its full EPCIC scope. Using Pioneering Spirit, Allseas installed the structures during a single offshore campaign, showcasing the vessel’s installation capabilities. The Pioneering Spirit is the world’s largest offshore construction vessel that can transport, install and remove entire offshore platforms in a single lift.
The project also demonstrated the versatility of Pioneering Spirit’s jacket lift system (JLS), which was used to install not only the suction bucket jackets but also the topsides – a solution developed to overcome the shallow-water conditions.

Largest wind farm in the Baltic Sea
Developed by transmission operator 50Hertz, OST-6-1 will connect the Gennaker wind farm located 15 kilometres off Germany’s Darß peninsula, which will be the largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. With a capacity of more than 900 MW, it will supply electricity to around one million households.
