Allseas’ offshore construction giant Pioneering Spirit has installed a second offshore substation for the Hollandse Kust Zuid development. There were only three days between loading the Beta topsides on board Pioneering Spirit in Rotterdam to finalising the set down and welding onto the jacket.
Allseas says it has been a record lift season for the world’s largest construction vessel. The installation of the Beta topsides is another significant milestone in the delivery of a strategically important energy project for the Netherlands. It follows installation of the sister topsides, Alpha, by Pioneering Spirit last December.

Located 20 km off the coast of The Hague, Alpha is the first connection of an offshore wind farm to Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte, with a capacity of 700 MW. The energisation of Beta later this year will inject a further 700 MW of clean electricity into the Dutch grid.
