Allseas recently installed the Alpha transformer station for the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) wind farm with its heavy-lift giant Pioneering Spirit. The company has now released a video of the installation.

With the project, Allseas wants to highlight its ambition to become a key contractor in the offshore wind market. Watch a video of the installation below.

The HKZ development is part of the Dutch government’s pledge to develop 3.5 GW of offshore wind energy capacity by 2023. Located off the Dutch coast, the Alpha and Beta transformer stations will connect the HKZ development with the Dutch mainland grid, generating enough clean electricity to power more than two million households per year.

Built in Dubai, the 3900-tonne platform was shipped to Rotterdam and loaded onto Pioneering Spirit. The recording-breaking construction vessel did the rest with a seamless installation on 26 December. The Pioneering Spirit will return to the wind farm to install the Beta platform at a later time.

Pioneering Spirit

Allseas‘ Pioneering Spirit is the largest vessel in the world and capable of lifting and transporting entire platform topsides of up to 48,000 tonnes in one piece using motion-compensated single-lift technology. The twin-hulled vessel is 382 metres long and 124 metres wide.
