KIVI lecture for KNVTS members: Seabed nodule collection at Allseas

March 28

On Thursday evening 28th of March KNVTS members are welcome to join KIVI at Allseas in Delft for a lecture by Edward Heerema on the development of Allseas’ solution for collecting polymetallic nodules from the ocean floor.

Allseas has developed and built a system designed to collect polymetallic nodules from the seabed with minimal impact on the local environment The system comprises a nodule collection vehicle that drives over the seabed and collects nodules like a large vacuum cleaner. Inside the collector, nodules are separated from sediment and pumped up through a riser pipe to a surface production vessel, Hidden Gem.

In November 2022 the system was tested in the Clarion Clipperton zone in the Pacific Ocean. Within the framework of these tests, independent marine experts and scientists conducted extensive environmental impact analyses.
