Alewijnse Marine Vietnam has delivered a comprehensive electrical and automation package for the Truong Minh 02. This is the largest bulk carrier to be built in Vietnam to date.

The delivery of the Truong Minh 02 marks a significant milestone for Vietnam’s shipbuilding capability. With a length of nearly 200 metres and a deadweight of 65,000 tonnes, the vessel demonstrates the country’s growing expertise in delivering high-specification bulk carriers in compliance with international regulations.

Single-point electrical and automation partner

For this project, Alewijnse Marine Vietnam acted as the single-point electrical and automation partner, providing a full package from engineering and manufacturing to installation support, commissioning and sea trials. This beginning-to-end approach has ensured that Alewijnse’s responsibilities have extended beyond equipment assembly, guaranteeing performance, compliance verification and operational readiness prior to vessel handover.

Alewijnse’s comprehensive scope of work includes:

  • Drafting the engineering plans and the developing of the complete electrical architecture in compliance with the standards of ClassNK and Vietnam Register.
  • Alarm & monitoring system (AMS) and its integration in a centralised monitoring platform serving as the vessel’s digital control backbone, enabling real-time supervision and operational safety.
  • Manufacturing the switchboards and consoles and ensuring the precision of their assembly. Thereafter the main switchboards (MSB), emergency switchboards (ESB) and customised bridge and engine control consoles were tested prior to installation.
  • Commissioning and sea trials: these involved on-site system integration, harbour acceptance testing (HAT), commissioning procedures and sea trials support to verify full operational reliability under real sailing conditions.

Largest project built domestically

Dongbac Shipping Industry is a leading Vietnamese shipbuilding investor focused on modern, high-capacity vessels that meet international standards. The construction of Truong Minh 02, the largest bulk carrier of its kind built domestically, underlines its ambition to strengthen Vietnam’s commercial fleet and compete globally.

The vessel’s launch at Ha Long Shipyard showcases Vietnam’s expanding large-scale shipbuilding capabilities. The advanced electrical and automation infrastructure installed on Truong Minh 02 reflects Alewijnse’s ability to deliver global engineering standards locally in Vietnam and elsewhere.
