Holland Shipyards Group recently completed the concrete hull for The Good Hotel’s modular floating hotel. This 108 x 18-metre barge is being built using over 200 truckloads of concrete.
After construction on a temporary pontoon, the hull was carefully submerged to become fully buoyant. Holland Shipyards is now in the outfitting phase. Later this year, the Dutch shipbuilder will begin assembling the five-storey steel structure that will house 230 hotel rooms. Watch construction progress in the video by Holland Shipyards below.
Floating hotel
Holland Shipyards won the contract from Good Hotels in September 2024. The Flotilla, a modular floating hotel, will consist of the 108.25 x 18.00-metre barge (base) that has now been launched and a 99.00 x 15.00 x 15.00-metre topside.
Holland Shipyards is building both base and topside. The modular design, developed by Good Hotels, allows for minimal on-site construction and reduced environmental impact, as the structure will be entirely built at the shipyard and then towed to its final destination.

Green electricity powered
The Flotilla will operate entirely without fossil fuels, relying solely on green electricity. Its roof will serve as a sustainable energy plant, equipped with solar panels strategically positioned for optimal energy capture. The hotel is designed to be passively immune to extreme weather conditions, featuring high-insulation walls, roof, and heat-resistant glazing.
Its energy consumption is minimised through A++ equipment and smart controls that adjust based on occupancy. The air conditioning system is engineered to heat water while cooling rooms, further enhancing energy efficiency. A water-sourced heat pump system combines heating and cooling.
