Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) plans to acquire all of the share capital of Rimorchiatori Mediterranei S.p.A. Rimorchiatori is an international leading towage operator active in Italy, Malta, Singapore, Malaysia, Norway, Greece and Colombia.

MSC will acquire the company from Rimorchiatori Riuniti and a fund managed by DWS’s Infrastructure Investment business through its wholly owned subsidiary SAS Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl.

Through the transaction, MSC wants to further improve towage service efficiency across all Rimorchiatori Mediterranei’s operations. Completion remains subject to the receipt of approvals, including from the relevant competition authorities. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Further growth of towage business

Rimorchiatori Riuniti sees in MSC the ‘ideal investor’ to realise further growth for the towage company, due to the container liner’s global network in shipping and port operations.
