Damen Shipyards Group has implemented Dassault Systèmes’ 3DExperience platform for its yacht design and construction division. The platform is used for general engineering, detail design and production preparation.
The new platform was commissioned in September 2020 to design the Amels Limited Editions series of super yachts. It replaces a series of legacy environments. Damen uses the industry solutions “Designed for Sea”, “On Time to Sea” and “Optimised Production for Sea” from Dassault.
Single source of truth
From now on, Damen Yachting will develop one digital model per ship that will form the “single source of truth” for all parties involved. This will enable the company to carry out complex projects in a shorter period of time. This is due to the fact that CAD and PLM (product lifecycle management) are now fully integrated, standards and already approved designs can be reused and cooperation with subcontractors can be further improved. While the ship models are being developed on the 3DExperience platform, Damen can now work much better with both suppliers and customers, while the integrity of the data is guaranteed and the “intellectual property” is protected as much as possible.
Damen Shipyards Group has been using Dassault’s solutions since 2016. In the meantime, the group has extended the use of the 3DExperience platform to design and engineering, information management and mutual cooperation. This has enabled Damen to optimise the design process, develop more sustainable production methods and improve working methods.
The next business unit within Damen that will switch to the 3DExperience platform is the Naval division. In addition, research is being carried out within the group into which other business units also want to use the 3DExperience platform.
