In the best possible scenario, transshipment in the Dutch seaports will decrease by eleven per cent in 2020 compared to the previous year due to the corona crisis. For road, rail and inland navigation, the decrease in volumes will be up to five per cent in 2020.

This has been reported by research agency Panteia on behalf of the Dutch Knowledge Institute for Mobility Policy (Kennisinstituut voor Mobiliteitsbeleid, KiM).

If the corona crisis lasts a year, transshipment in the seaports is expected to decrease by eighteen per cent in 2020. For road, rail and inland shipping the decrease will be up to ten per cent. Panteia does not expect any part of the transport sector to reach the levels of 2019 in 2021.
