Passengers and crew who have recently been to China are not allowed to board cruise ships because of the novel coronavirus. Industry organisation Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) reports that shipping companies are taking these extra precautions to prevent an outbreak on board the ships.

‘CLIA Members have suspended crew movements from mainland China and will deny boarding to any individual, whether guest or crew, who has travelled from or through mainland China within the previous 14 days,’ CLIA states. The trade association represents virtually all major cruise lines, such as TUI, MSC, Costa and Holland America Line.

Last week, more than 6000 passengers on a cruise ship in Italy were temporarily kept on board when two Chinese passengers showed flu symptoms. The two passengers turned out not to be infected with the coronavirus.
