Approximately 6000 passengers on a cruise ship in the port of Civitavecchia in Italy are not allowed to leave the vessel for the time being. Two Chinese passengers on board may be infected with the coronavirus. Shipping company Costa Crociere announced this on Thursday.
The Chinese couple arrived in Italy on 25 January, where they boarded the Costa Smeralda in the port of Savona. In the following days, the ship successively docked in Marseilles, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, to arrive in Civitavecchia, north of Rome, on Thursday.
As the couple suffers from the coronavirus symptoms (fever, coughing and shortness of breath), everyone is kept on board. In the meantime, the couple is subjected to all kinds of examinations.
