VDL AEC Maritime in Eindhoven will deliver seven scrubber systems from Greece based ship management company, Thenamaris. The scrubber systems will be delivered before the end of March 2020.

Dutch company VDL AEC Maritime is based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and starting producing tailor-made scrubber systems for shipping companies following extensive research into emission and odour-reducing techniques dating back to 1994. So far, the company has installed almost 100 systems across numerous vessel types and sizes. The scrubber filters, among other things, sulphur particles from the exhaust fumes of ship’s engines.

VDL AEC Maritime Expands Production Capacity

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has ruled that as from 1 January 2020, the maximum fuel oil sulphur limit of 3.5 per cent will be decreased to 0.5 per cent. Scrubbers are a way of complying with these regulations while still being able to use heavy fuel oil.

VDL AEC Maritime has responded to this by increasing its production capacity. Joost Wijdeveld, Sales Director of VDL AEC Maritime: ‘Due to further optimisation of our complete supply chain we were able to further increase our production capacity. On the short term, this results in additional available production spots for early 2020.’

Thenamaris Ships Management Inc. is a global ship manager of ocean-going vessels. The fleet under management currently comprises 86 vessels ranging from oil tankers and bulk carriers to containerships.
