Recently, Damen Shipyards Group contracted EST-Floattech to supply two battery systems, thereby renewing the framework agreement in place between the two companies since last year. The two Octopus Series battery systems are to be installed on board Damen Combi Freighter (CF) 3850 vessels.
In November 2024, EST-Floattech and Damen Cargo Vessels signed an agreement, formalising their collaboration in a bid to make shipping greener. This latest order will bring the total number of EST-Floattech systems installed on CF 3850 vessels to nine.

CF 3850 is ready for fuel-saving options
The CF 3850 is a successful cargo vessel for short-sea markets. Since releasing the next generation version of the vessel, Damen Cargo Vessels has received orders for fifty such vessels in just five years.
The CF 3850 is a standard, proven platform focused on the delivery of high levels of efficiency. In addition to its optimised hull form, the vessel is prepared for the integration of wide-ranging options for increased efficiency. These solutions work in concert with one another, each playing a part in the significant reduction of the vessel’s emissions.

One of these options is an EST-Floattech Octopus battery system, ranging from 240 kWh to 1320 kWh, based on operator requirements. Depending on its size, the battery system enables peak shaving, bow thruster support and/or zero emission port calls.

To ensure the continued reliability of the model in the market, we aim to integrate similarly proven options. With the EST-Floattech Octopus battery system, not only do we have a solution we can depend on, but we also have the modular flexibility to scale up to meet the specific requirements of our clients.’
