Royal T Shipyards has delivered Hav Fles, the second vessel in the GADUS 5900 series, to Faroese shipping company Navigare Shipping & Logistics. Following the completion of its sea trials, the short-sea vessel is ready to enter service.
The GADUS 5900 features a diesel-electric propulsion system powered by four generator sets. This configuration allows power generation to be adapted to operational demands, supporting efficient fuel use. The vessel is also designed to continue sailing on a single generator set in certain emergency situations, providing additional operational flexibility.

Electrically powered excavator
A key feature of Hav Fles is its electrically powered excavator, which enables self-discharging operations. When connected to a suitable shore power supply, the cargo-handling system can operate without onboard fossil-fuel combustion, allowing zero-emission cargo handling in port.
With exceptionally low fuel consumption for its deadweight class, Hav Fles combines efficient propulsion with electrically powered cargo handling to support more sustainable short-sea shipping.

Designed around everyday operations
Hav Fles also incorporates several features designed to make daily operations more practical and efficient. The vessel has a covered foredeck, providing protection from the elements, and a spacious, well-arranged wheelhouse that offers the crew a functional working environment with good visibility.
The wheelhouse layout is particularly beneficial when manoeuvring in smaller ports, where visibility and precise vessel handling are essential. Wing station controls allow the crew to operate the relevant systems directly from the bridge wings during berthing and departure, keeping essential controls within reach and supporting accurate manoeuvring.

Continuing the GADUS 5900 series
Hav Fles is the second of four GADUS 5900 vessels commissioned by Navigare Shipping & Logistics. Its delivery follows that of sister vessel Hav Leiti, which entered the series earlier this year. Construction of the remaining vessels in the series is continuing.
Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Royal T Shipyards: ‘Every vessel we build is an opportunity to translate practical experience into better solutions for the future. With Hav Fles, we have combined efficient diesel-electric propulsion with electric cargo handling and a design that supports everyday operations.’
