Technology group Wärtsilä closed the transaction of the joint venture for its Energy Storage business on 1 October. Under the arrangement, Wärtsilä and German engineering company RCT Solutions now each hold a fifty per cent stake in the joint venture, called Valo.

Wärtsilä had already announced the agreement with RCT Solutions GmbH on 15 June 2026. The joint venture combines the former’s global energy storage capabilities with RCT Solutions’ engineering expertise. The goal is to provide a strong platform for long-term growth in the rapidly evolving energy storage market.

Wärtsilä’s Energy Storage business employs approximately 450 people globally, and in 2025, it generated net sales of EUR 694 million. The transaction represents less than five per cent of Wärtsilä’s total net assets.

Growth strategy for independent company

It is expected that the new joint venture will generate operating loss in 2026 and positive results towards the end of 2027. With the transaction now completed, the joint venture will focus on executing its growth strategy and serving customers globally as an independent company jointly owned by Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions GmbH.
