From the magazine – The challenge landscape for the submarine industry is becoming increasingly complex due to a combination of geopolitical, technological, industrial, and workforce-related developments. SWZ|Maritime’s September 2026 issue discusses the developments in the submarine industry presented during the Warship 2026 submarines conference.

As more nations invest in submarine capabilities and advanced naval technologies, the need to innovate while reducing development and production timelines has become more urgent. New technologies are coming up, like networked parent platforms supported by autonomous, AI-enabled unmanned vehicles, advances in energy storage, quantum computing, the use of advanced materials and 3D printing. This was the focus of the Warship 2026 conference, organised by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), which took place 24-25 June in Bath, the UK.

The article on the conference is part of SWZ|Maritime’s September navy special. It was written by SWZ editor Annelinde Gerritsen. Curious about this article? Read the digital copy of our September issue in our archive (subscribers only). Not yet a subscriber? Become one today!
