CMA CGM is collaborating with Neoliner Origin, Neoline’s first wind-powered cargo vessel, offering a direct connection between North Europe and North America. The ship can cut emissions by up to ninety per cent compared to conventional vessels.

CMA CGM seeks to integrate low-carbon solutions into its global network. The service with Neoline is available for dry cargo, out-of-gauge, and refrigerated goods.

The Neoliner Origin sails between Zeebrugge, Belgium and Montoir-de-Bretagne, France to and from Baltimore, USA and Halifax, Canada. The vessel’s maiden call at Zeebrugge is scheduled for 21 September.

Neoliner Origin

Neoliner Origin is a RoRo (roll on–roll off) sailing cargo ship that harnesses the wind as its main source of propulsion. This is complemented by an auxiliary diesel-electric system. The vessel is 136 metres long and has a cargo capacity of 11,000-tonnes.

Equipped with two Solidsail masts (designed by Chantiers de l’Atlantique) and anti-drift plans (developed by Fouré Lagadec), Neoliner Origin is purpose-built to sail primarily under wind power while maintaining reliable transit times. Both rigs can be folded down, enabling access to most ports with ease.

Since entering service in October 2025, Neoliner Origin has completed six transatlantic round trips. Its record speed under sail recorded so far is 16.6 knots, with an average speed of 11.2 knots.
