Boskalis recently announced its first deployment of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) from its new Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Aberdeen. Now, a second vessel, the diving support vessel BOKA Da Vinci, is also connected to the ROC.
From the onshore center, Boskalis teams first worked directly with the company’s construction support vessel BOKA Northern Ocean, which was working offshore. During a test phase, ROVs underwent a week of intensive trials from this vessel in the North Sea.

Remote support for decommissioning projects
Thanks to a reliable satellite connection, the ROC now remains in constant contact with the BOKA Da Vinci as well during project execution. This vessel is primarily used in the North Sea to carry out decommissioning projects that remove outdated infrastructure to make way for renewable energy projects.

The DP2 BOKA Da Vinci was built in 2011 and measures 115.40 x 22.20 metres. The vessel is equipped with Eutelsat OneWeb’s LEO technology supplied by Marlink. This hybrid network solution provides considerably faster and more stable and reliable Internet connectivity.
To ensure smooth collaboration with colleagues at the ROC, the BOKA Da Vinci is equipped with two new ROVs and related systems, enabling 24-hour remote assistance from Aberdeen.

Subsea tasks from shore
The ROC significantly expands Boskalis’ remote operating capabilities by enabling critical subsea tasks to be supported and controlled from shore. The centre provides a central hub for fleet operations, offers additional on-demand expertise to support offshore crews and is designed to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen safety and ensure consistent delivery across projects.
