The air defence and command frigate HNLMS Evertsen has successfully neutralised an airborne drone during an air defence exercise in a firing range near Crete. The frigate trained its response to aerial threats as part of its current operation.

During the test of its air defence chain, HNLMS Evertsen deployed multiple weapon systems. The vessel launched a surface-to-air missile to intercept short-range aerial targets such as drones, missiles and aircraft. In addition, the Goalkeeper close-in weapon system was used to neutralise targets at close range.

Training with air defence systems during an operation is both common and essential. It ensures the crew remains fully prepared to carry out its duties and maintains constant readiness. Such launches are also valuable for testing onboard systems.
