NMT-IRO changes name to Maritime & Offshore NL

by Mariska Buitendijk | Nov 5, 2025 | Maritime manufacturing industry, News, Offshore, Offshore wind, Ship design, Shipbuilding

Maritime & Offshore NL

On 4 November, at Europort and ADIPEC, NMT-IRO launched its new name: Maritime & Offshore NL. The industry association states that it has chosen for an ‘internationally clear and strategically strong name’ that connects all of its members.

Originally, IRO was the association of Dutch suppliers in the offshore energy industry, and Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) was the trade organisation for the Dutch maritime manufacturing industry. The two organisations decided to merge from 1 January 2025.

At the time, Director Jeroen de Graaf said: ‘This merger strengthens our combined strength. By combining the offshore with the maritime manufacturing industry, the entire sector is now represented under one roof. I look forward to all the great things we will achieve as NMT-IRO.’

In May 2025, a third organisation announced it would be joining NMT-IRO. Holland Home of Wind Energy will officially become part of what is now Maritime & Offshore NL in January 2026 at which point the restyling of the new organisation is to be complete.

From January 2026, Maritime & Offshore NL is a collective of more than 850 members, representing over forty per cent of the entire Dutch maritime sector.

Drive to innovate

On its website, Maritime & Offshore NL states: ‘Whether you work in shipbuilding, supply, offshore energy or offshore wind, we share the same drive to innovate and to build sustainable, forward-looking solutions for the future. This new name allows us to express that even more clearly.’

‘But the new name and logo are only the beginning. The real work starts now. We need all our members to help bring this new identity to life. After all, nothing shows who we are better than the products and projects you create,’ adds the organisation.

New logo

During the opening of Europort, participants were also introduced to the meaning behind the new logo: an abstract and timeless design. The rising sun above the sea symbolises energy and renewal. The “M” forms a window to the horizon – a symbol of cooperation and innovation. It also represents construction and strength, the core of the manufacturing industry.
