As of 26 February, Balk Shipyard, based in Urk, the Netherlands, is back in Dutch hands. With this acquisition, 100% of the shares of the yacht builder revert to Dutch ownership. The new owner is a Dutch entrepreneur whose name has not been disclosed.

In 2022, the yachtbuilder had been acquired by Zhongying International. It has not been revealed why the Chinese investment company has now sold its shares to the new owner.

The Dutch entrepreneur will be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the yard. His hands-on approach fits seamlessly with the Dutch tradition and craftsmanship with which the Netherlands has distinguished itself in yacht building, states Balk Shipyard.

Evan Kortmann, CEO Balk Shipyard: ‘We are delighted that Balk Shipyard is back in Dutch hands. With a committed owner close to the yard and the operation, we look to the future with confidence. Our focus remains delivering high-quality refits and rebuilds for superyachts between 25 and 65 metres, while retaining the craftsmanship that has characterised us for generations. Our Dutch history is something we are proud of and this move underlines that once again.’
