Dwarse scheepsbouwers
The episode “Dwarse scheepsbouwers”, a portrait of shipbuilder Royal Bodewes portrayed by VPRO Tegenlicht, painted an exceptionally good picture of the Dutch maritime sector. VPRO Tegenlicht’s production team succeeded in very aptly portraying traditional, innovative and entrepreneurial aspects of a Dutch maritime family business.
The focus on entrepreneurship and passion in the company through several generations paints a strong and positive picture of a modern maritime family business working hard to assert its right to exist. The maritime sector is characterised by companies that are not quick to step into the limelight. Royal Bodewes shows that it needs to step into the spotlight to inform the general public about the maritime sector. A wonderful TV episode has been created that has made a social impact through visibility.

Other nominees
Two other organisations were nominated for the Maritime Achievement Award. They are:
- 200 years of KNRM – The volunteers of the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) have been committed to helping those in need on the water for 200 years.
- Safeguarding Mare Librum – An appreciation of the commitment of all men and women who, as Royal Netherlands Navy sailors, work for the international freedom of navigation by civilian shipping
The Maritime Achievement Award is characterised by social recognition of a maritime achievement. The central question is which development has had the greatest added value for the Netherlands and/or is a calling card for the Netherlands as a maritime country. Based on submission or nomination, the award is open to, preferably Dutch, natural persons and legal entities that have played a distinctive role in an innovative way for the benefit of the positive position of the Dutch maritime sector.
