As a result of the growing demand for Beavers, Royal IHC has decided to expand its production capacity. In addition to the company’s Dutch production capacity, Royal IHC has selected Vahali Shipyards to build standard cutter suction dredgers (CSDs) at its yard in Serbia.

The first steel plates were cut last week, marking the official start of this project. Royal IHC has been working together with Vahali Shipyards for quite some time now. Vahali, originally a Dutch shipbuilder with its headquarters in Gendt (the Netherlands), has experienced significant growth over the last ten years, in particular with the construction of more than sixty river cruise ships.

For Royal IHC, Vahali has already partially built hulls for standardised dredging and mining CSDs. This partnership will now be extended to the construction of the Beaver 65 DDSP.

Commenting on the partnership with Vahali Shipyards, Royal IHC COO Bert Jan ter Riet says: ‘There is a high level of demand for the largest CSD in our Beaver range. For our customers, fast delivery times are crucial. Therefore, it was necessary to increase the production capacity to continue to ensure availability from stock. As we have come to know Vahali as a reliable partner who delivers high quality products, we have full confidence in a successful partnership.’

Beaver CSDs

Cutter suction dredgers are power-houses that are capable of handling the toughest conditions below the water line. They can carve through rock, cut through tough clays and move the coarser sand and gravel. CSDs are ideal for many dredging jobs such as sand and gravel, land reclamation and port construction.

Beaver CSDs are reliable, fuel efficient, have low maintenance costs and are extremely productive at all dredging depths. IHC has a proven track record of sixty years, with more than 1000 of these cutter suction dredgers delivered worldwide since 1963.

Over the years, the design of IHC’s Beaver has been continuously improved using the latest technological developments and feedback from customers. Innovations and digital solutions have been added – such as electrification and operations monitoring solutions – which improves operational efficiency and a sustainable performance.
