Every offshore project has its own peaks. For the transport and installation campaign for Ørsted and Eversource’s Revolution Wind offshore wind farm off the east coast of the United States, Boskalis reached one when its crane vessel Bokalift 2 successfully installed the largest foundation recently.
This wind turbine foundation is 114 metres long and weighs 2105 tonnes. Later this year, the Bokalift 2 will install two even larger foundations, but these serve a different purpose in the 704-MW offshore wind farm, which will provide Connecticut and Rhode Island with green power. They are needed to carry the two offshore substations.
Along the East Coast of the United States, Boskalis is working with a large number of specialised offshore vessels this year. In addition to the Bokalift 2, these include the crane vessel Bokalift 1, several semi-submersible heavy transport vessels and US vessels engaged in surveying, monitoring, and component transportation.

Following the successful deployment of the crane vessel Bokalift 1, Boskalis commissioned an even more powerful crane vessel in 2022: the Bokalift 2. This DP2 crane vessel has a revolving crane with a lifting capacity of 4000 tonnes capable of lifting structures more than 100 metres high.
The vessel has 7500 m2 of free deck space and can accommodate 150 persons. Also, it is currently outfitted with fully operational monopile installation equipment consisting of a motion compensated pile gripper frame (MCPGF) and an upend hinge; both designed for monopiles weighing up to 3000 mt.
