Where Amsterdam seeks to ban cruise ships from its city centre, the port of Hamburg will welcome them with open arms. The German port is constructing a new, modern terminal that will include shore power.

From 2025, the former Cruise Center HafenCity will be replaced by the new facility. The new cruise terminal will be part of a building complex that includes an underground bus terminal, car parking spaces, taxi access, as well as hotel and retail areas.

Additionally, the two new berths at the new terminal will provide cruise ships with the capability to access shore power during their time at berth.

Amsterdam wants cruise ships gone

In Amsterdam, however, they have a very different opinion of the polluting cruise ships. In July, the Amsterdam city council announced it wants cruise ships to stop mooring in the city centre in the near future. It will be investigated where the Amsterdam cruise terminal should move to.
