Following Feadship Royal van Lent, Royal Huisman has now also selected the Port of Amsterdam to build superyachts. The company will be operating from the former Holland Jachtbouw shipyard.

The Netherlands is a leading global player in the manufacture of superyachts. Jan Timmerman, CEO of Royal Huisman: ‘In extending our facilities in the Amsterdam region, we will be able to properly meet growing demand among current and new customers. This second shipyard will, over a longer period of time, serve as an excellent addition to our existing site in Vollenhove, both for new builds and for refits.’

Port as Land Owner

Holland Jachtbouw came to an abrupt end when owner Chris Gongriep passed away unexpectedly two years ago. His daughter decided not to continue the shipyard after the last ships under construction at the time were completed.

Royal Huisman was interested in the facilities, but considered the risk of taking over the three halls capable of building ships up to 50 m long too great at the time. The Port of Amsterdam then decided to buy the land of which it became the owner on 14 May, thereby reducing the risk for Royal Huisman.

Superyacht Hub

The Port of Amsterdam seeks to become a superyacht hub after it first saw Feadship Royal Van Lent open new facilities there in 2016. The arrival of Royal Huisman strengthens the Port's position in this market further and will generate jobs in, as well as bring innovation and craftsmanship to, the Amsterdam region.
