The Danish Maritime Authority is developing an app that will allow seafarers to access their certificates from a smartphone thereby significantly reducing the administrative burden for seafarers.
Development of the app is underway, and an initial test voyage will begin later this month. The app is expected to be launched at the end of 2019.
Reducing the Paper Trail
Currently, many pieces of paper are used for the documentation for seafarers. Through the app, seafarers will have access to digital certificates and can also maintain them there.
The Concept
- The seafarer can store, view and share all his or her data via the app.
- The ship's master and shipping company will have access to their crews’ certificates.
- Data from the app will also be easy to present to maritime and port authorities prior to port calls, which has great potential for streamlining the often burdensome procedures of the ship-port interface.
