For the sixth year in a row, Marin will offer five Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) a free basin slot of two weeks in 2019.
The offer is intended for SMEs who want to explore a new maritime concept: to see if it works, to improve it or to demonstrate it. With this initiative, Marin wants to help Dutch SMEs to make an important step in the development of their innovation.
New Ideas and Concepts
It is about new ideas and concepts, not about optimising existing designs and design tests; that is what Marin's normal projects and rates are for. The possible projects are diverse: from floating wind turbines and solar panels to large kites to generate wind energy. Concepts that have been successfully tested and completed in the past can be found on the Marin website. www.marin.nl/mkb
Free Basin Slots with Marin Guidance
Marin offers SMEs a free basin slot of two weeks (including preparations and test time) in the Marin Concept Basin or the Marin Shallow Water Basin. During these two weeks, an experienced experimenter will operate the systems and assist customers in performing the tests. Also included is a preparatory day for substantive consultation with an experienced Marin Project Manager and a Marin Project Engineer. Together they discuss the concept, the best approach of the tests and the necessary support by Marin. The offer represents a value of roughly 40,000 euros per client.
Adding Own Investments
Customers can bring their own models and participate in the test execution. Marin can also make the models for which a fee applies. The same applies to analyses and reporting performed by Marin. Experience from previous years shows that participants themselves invest around 20,000-30,000 euros in these tests.
Everything is confidential and the knowledge gained during the tests remains with the SMEs.
Concept and Shallow Water Basin
The Concept Basin has a length of 220 m, a width of 4 m and a depth of 4 m. The basin has a strong overhead carriage. The basin is equipped with a single flap wave maker on one end and a parabolic wave absorbing beach at the other end. The basin is filled with fresh water. The Shallow Water Basin measures 220 m × 15.8 m x 0-1.1 m.
