Next Generation (NG) Shipyards in Lauwersoog, the Netherlands, has won a contract from the Nederlands Loodswezen (Dutch pilots) for a new pilot tender with an option for another two.
The new ships are of an adapted Camarc design. The biggest design challenge was the Loodswezen’s requirement to reduce vessel weight from 54 t to 40 t in order to reduce fuel consumption and accompanying emissions. NG Shipyards was able to realise this while maintaining the functional properties of the L class. The pilot tenders will be built in Lauwersoog.
The tender is to be delivered on 1 March 2020. If this tender meets all expectations, the yard will receive an order for two more tenders to be delivered in 2021 and 2022. The new tenders will replace the vessels of the Discovery class.
