(Update: Windcat video added) The Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) has announced the nominees for its annual Maritime KVNR Shipping Award.

For the first time this year, the companies had the opportunity to reinforce their entries with a short presentation, after which the KVNR jury selected the 3 nominees for this year's award:

  • the Sustainable Deployment Policy of Nederlands Loodswezen BV;
  • Multraship's and Novatug's Carrousel Rave Tug; and
  • the Windcat MK3.5 vessels of Windcat Workboats.

The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala on Monday 12 November.

Sustainable Deployment Policy

Each year, Nederlands Loodswezen BV contributes to the safe piloting of as many as 90,000 ships through the "Aorta of Europe". This is accompanied by enormous pressure and that is why Loodswezen is making every effort to customise the sustainable deployment of its employees.

In the field of welfare, development and health, the Loodswezen has managed to realise a workable package of customised services. Nederlands Loodwezen deserves this nomination because, as a social innovator, it sets the example for other employers both within and outside the maritime sector.

Carrousel Rave Tug

It took many years to create the Carrousel Rave Tug and the design has already won another Maritime Award in the past. Yet, this entry is once again eligible for a nomination, but in a different category, because the project has  resulted in the successful completion of a ship that offers considerable environmental benefits.

Furthermore, it includes a comprehensive plan for the future that will benefit the sector as a whole, both in terms of sustainability and in the area of providing services.

Multraship and Novatug have been nominated for their combination of successful realization and implementation with a vision for the future that goes beyond their own company.

Windcat MK3.5

Windcat MK3.5 from Windcat Workboats has been nominated because the ship is a product made possible by previous innovations, such as Windgrip. This allows the vessel to provide a better, faster and more sustainable service through the use of alternative construction materials such as aluminium and carbon.

In addition, more people can be transported more comfortably, which is an important step towards meeting the growing demand for these services as a result of the increasing number of offshore wind farms.

The innovative Windcat MK3.5 vessels are a product of building on other innovations within the company and that says a lot about the corporate culture and future innovative plans.
