CMA CGM Group has reached an agreement with Container Finance Ltd Oy to acquire its container shipping and logistics business Containerships and Container Finance’s holdings in Multi-Link Terminals Ltd and CD Holding Oy.
Containerships’ network will complement CMA CGM and its affiliate MacAndrews’ service offering in North Europe and the Mediterranean. The transaction remains subject to approval by the relevant authorities. This is expected to take 3-6 months.
Containerships
Founded in 1966, the Finnish company Containerships is an intra-European shortsea specialist with a strong presence in the Baltic market, Russia, Northern Europe, North Africa and Turkey. The company also offers logistics solutions by ship, truck, rail and barges and has a workforce of 560 people.
LNG-fueled Container Ships
Containerships will take delivery of four LNG-fueled vessels between August 2018 and January 2019. In May, the first two were christened at Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou, China: the Containerships Nord and Containerships Strom. The new short-sea vessels hold a capacity of 1400 TEU and will be operating in Baltic and Nordic Sea. Each vessel accommodates up to 639 units of 45-foot containers.
Win G&D supplies the 7LRT-Flex50 DF dual-fuel engines, which meet the future NOx tier III requirements in gas mode. In addition, all vessels are equipped with one auxiliary engine of type Wärtsilä 4L20DF. Fuel storage tanks and Gas Handling System is provided by German TGE.
Intra-regional Markets
CMA CGM Group is also present on other intra-regional markets through different subsidiaries: CNC in Intra Asia, Mercosul in Brazil’s domestic container shipping market and Sofrana in the Pacific Islands regional maritime trade.
