Next week, a safety investigation into cyber security will start in the Port of Rotterdam.
The research has been initiated by a cooperation of the Port of Rotterdam Authority with FERM, SmartPort, the VeiligheidsAlliantie regio Rotterdam (safety alliance Rotterdam area), The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Avans University of Applied Sciences.
Strategic Insights into Cyber Security
As ships and port companies become ever more dependent upon digital systems and technologies, there is a strong need for strategic insights into cyber security. At the World Economic Forum 2018 (23-26 January) at Davos, cyber security was named one of the world’s largest risks. The number of cyber attacks increases dramatically and tax the global economy by around $ 445 billion annually.
Port Companies Vulnerable
Practice has shown that companies in the port of Rotterdam can also be vulnerable to digital threats. As digital information exchange and connections across chains and organisations increase, cyber security is of crucial importance.
The research aims to set up a "baseline measurement" for cyber security in the port area and will address the following three themes across the industry:
- Threats and technical measures
- Technological dependencies and organisational measures.
- Need for developing knowledge and information concerning cyber security
Next week, the research starts by sending a questionnaire to organisations active in the port of Rotterdam.
