Marin has been active in projects and research regarding the (re-)introduction of wind assisted ship propulsion for a few years now. With current societal challenges, the demand for this type of research is only increasing. An overview of recent, current and future work.

SWZ|Maritime's April issue takes a closer look at current and future developments in alternative energy sources for ships.

'Why would we even consider wind assisted ship propulsion? Did we not introduce combustion engines to make shipping more efficient and more reliable? Well, yes, but there may be good reasons to reconsider a new way of using wind as propulsion assistance going forward,' says Rogier Eggers, Senior Project Manager Ships at Marin.

In his article "Blast from the Past? Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion Shows Potential" he explains just why wind is such and attractive option and he shows what Marin has been and is doing in this field as well as what may become future research projects.
