SWZ|Maritime's March issue is here  bringing you the ins and outs of the new Red Ensign GroupYacht Code, also known as the LY4.

The LY4 is applicable to new yachts the keel of which is laid after the 1 January 2019, but available now to be voluntarily implemented. The introduction of the new LY4 is a confirmation of the steep changes the yacht industry has gone through the past twenty years. Read all about it in SWZ's March issue, available online now (subscribers only).

W2W Conversion

Yet, of course there's more. Wagenborg Offshore had a Platform Support Vessel, the Blue Queen, converted into a Walk-to-Work (W2W) Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV), the Kasteelborg. Read about this project that was completed within just 12 weeks.

Passing the Suez Canal with a Triple E

In addition, we asked a captain to tell us about his life on board. And not just any captain, Gijs IJssel de Schepper is the captain of the Moscow Maersk, one of Maersk's second generation Triple E container ships. What's it like to navigate such a ship through the Suez Canal?

Weather Routing

The Dutch MeteoGroup assists ship owners and charterers with every aspect of worldwide weather. This ranges from software for the captain to make his own weather forecasts to broad advice about the best routes to take. Eighteen former officers make sure the weather bulletins and advice match with what actually happens on board. SWZ|Maritime editor Sander Klos interviewed two of them.

Development of the Gas Engine

Following his article "Dieselmotoren in ontwikkeling" (developments in diesel engines) published in SWZ|Maritime in October 2017, Kees Kuiken now dives into the world of the gas and dual fuel engine. The March issue contains the first of two parts.

Other topics discussed in the March issue are batteries on ships, the roadmap towards autonomous shipping (the third and final part) and the launch of a Yacht Builders Academy in the Netherlands.
