Alewijnse Marine has finished the electrical upgrade of the 151-metre, self-propelled, DP2 jack-up vessel Seafox 5.
This took place while the vessel was docked at Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR) shipyard for modifications ordered by owner Seafox Contractors BV to prepare it for a new contract in the offshore wind industry. The modifications were necessary to enable the vessel to install 66 6 MW wind turbines at the Merkur wind farm off the coast of Germany. The main task was to lengthen the main boom of the 1200 tonne Liebherr crane.
New Electrical Systems
Yet, other repairs and upgrades were made while the vessel was in the yard, and Alewijnse Marine was commissioned to deliver and integrate the new electrical systems for the supply and installation of new cabling for the modified crane plus two additional power transformers, an EIVA ghost imaging system, gangway power supplies, additions to the CCTV system and UPS power supplies for the HV switchboard. Alewijnse also performed additional support activities.
Seafox 5
Seafox 5 is the largest jack-up in the Seafox fleet and is specifically designed to operate in harsh offshore environments throughout the year in water depths of up to 65 metres.
