In what has become a tradition in our magazine, in December we look at another country's maritime industry. This year a true maritime eldorado: Indonesia. With well over 17,000 islands, the archipelago's economy heavily depends on its maritime infrastructure.
In addition, another remarkable Dutch designed ship is discussed in detail: the Bibby WaveMaster-1. Damen designed this Accommodation Support Vessel specifically for offshore windfarm maintenance.
Although sailing through ice and antifouling are not often discussed at maritime conferences, they were significant topics at Hiper, the Symposium on High-Performance Marine Vehicles. Marine Bees, Computational Fluid Dynamics on demand and new ship concepts were also on the agenda.
Helene Perfors, a pastor at the Mission to Seafarers, discusses the importance of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006) and how it has impacted life on board as well as the work of the Mission to Seafarers.
