SWZ Maritime's "Maand Maritiem" features an item on the delivery of the RoPax 5212 Kunta Kinteh to the Gambian port authorities.

The hull of the ferry Kunta Kinteh was built in 70 days at Niron Staal Amsterdam, part of the Damen Shipyards Group. On 31 January, the hull was transported from the hall by self propelled modular trailers (SPMTs) to a submersible pontoon and launched the next day, a video of this operation can be found below.

After the launch, the ferry was towed to Gorinchem for final outfitting under supervision of Damen Hardinxveld.

The heavy lift vessel Happy River, owned by BigLift Shipping, left the Port of Rotterdam on 29 May with the RoPax 5212 on its deck to deliver the ferry to Banjul, Gambia, where it arrived on 7 June. The Kunta Kinteh (52 x 12 m) will sail between Banjul and Barra across the mouth of the Gambia River.
