(With extra pictures) In her capacity as merchant shipping’s godchild, Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands attended the jubilee celebration of the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners’ (KVNR) 25th anniversary.
At the event, which took place 29 June on board the ss Rotterdam in the Rijnhaven, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the Princess received the first copy of the KVNR anniversary book “Door op vol vermogen” (full power ahead) from departing president of the KVNR Tineke Netelenbos. Ms Netelenbos has been president of the KVNR since 2008 and has now been named Honorary Member in appreciation of her work for the association and its members.
The jubilee celebration was preceded by a meeting in which the members embraced a new model of governance that allows for a dual presidency. Together, Karin Orsel, CEO of MF Shipping Group, and Sibrand Hassing, Director Fleet Operations Europe of the Holland America Group, will head the KVNR in the years to come.
Maritime Awards
Every year, many maritime innovations are acknowledged through the Maritime Awards. The KVNR presents one of the five awards: the KVNR Shipping Award. That is why the guests at this event were treated to a sneak preview of the nominees, Koole Engineering, Wagenborg Shipping and Van Oord, in the form of a short film. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala on 6 November.
Our editor Gerrit J. de Boer was present at the KVNR’s festive gathering and took the pictures you can find in the album below (please click the pop-out link to view them in their proper dimensions).
