The Koninklijke Van der Wees Watertransporten B.V.(Royal) company christened an 87-metre-long superyacht today.
A special translocation was conducted yesterday from the Slob shipyard in Papendrecht, prior to the launch and christening.
The transport took place on Tuesday 20 June over the Oude Maas and sailed along Dordrecht.
The yacht or casco was transported on a pontoon with a tugboat to Rotterdam. This morning the ship was christened at Franklin Offshore, Scheepsbouwweg.
On Friday 23 June it will be towed to the Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw BV shipyard in Aalsmeer via Rotterdam-Brienenoord-Erasmusbruggen, Gouda /Waddinxveen- Alphen a/d Rijn, Braassemermeer, for completion of its construction.
The 1200 ton casco will be loaded onto Lastdrager 35, the newest pontoon of Van der Wees. Ro-ro (roll on, roll off) techniques will be used to carry this out, specifically a very precise method using weight distribution.
The 110-year-old Koninklijke Van der Wees has approximately fifty years’ experience with RoRo techniques. The company has done many major projects in its time and is a division of the Maritieme Regio Drechtsteden (Drecht Cities Maritime Delta), where many maritime stalwarts are instituted.
