The ferry Zilverstad, the latest acquisition of Veerdienst Schoonhoven BV, was launched today at the ship slope of Thecla Bodewes Shipyards in Kampen. This ferry will replace Schoonhoven III.
The ferry will used on the Schoonhoven-Gelkenes route across Lek.
The keel laying took place on 19 December 2016. The ship will be delivered in July. The Zilverstad ferry is based on the design for the ferry Stad Schoonhoven by Cor D. Rover Design. They are identical sister ships, however, there are minor differences such as the design of the construction, location and dimensions of the wheelhouse. The improvements were installed in close collaboration with the client so as to simplify the operating system.
The ferry is 45 metres in length and has row valves in the front and back to accommodate various vehicles. Approximately 26 cars and other vehicles can fit on the Zilverstad which has a storage capacity of 280 ton. It also has room for a total of 225 bicycles.
