HES International is developing a tank terminal for the storage and transhipment of oil products and biofuels at the Hartelstrook on the south of the Mississippi harbour on the Maasvlakte 1 in Rotterdam.
BP, owner of the refinery in Rotterdam is committed to the project including plans for pipeline connections between the refinery and the terminal. The terminal and its construction will be in keeping with the highest safety and environmental demands.
According to the planning construction will begin next year and the terminal should be ready be the end of 2019.
The 27 hectare terrain will accommodate 52 tanks with a capacity of 1,3 million m3. The Port of Rotterdam is in the process of constructing a quay of 1.100 metres to accommodate a maximum of three large seagoing vessels or five smaller ones. There will be nine mooring locations for inland navigation at the Hudson harbour.
The HES Hartel Tank Terminal will be an independent storage facility for the oil products of clients. BP has a long-term contract which expands its activities in Rotterdam. “Clean petroleum products” such as diesel, gasoline and benzine will be stored. There are also facilities to combine products and homogenise loading. The construction of the HES Hartel Tank Terminal will also make a positive contribution in the direct and indirect creation of job opportunities.
