The historical paddle salon boat Kapitein Anna formally known as Kapitein Kok is sailing again and is docked at her Amsterdam home following a comprehensive restoration.
The boat has recently been registered as a sailing monument known as Varend Monument in Dutch. The boat was built in 1911 and was baptised under its new name Kaptein Anna in 2013. In its heyday it was used as an evacuation vessel during the Second World War, particularly in May 1940 when war, violence and bombings forced the residents of Rhenen, Wageningen, Opheusden, Kesteren, Lekkerkerk and Krimpen aan de Lek to flee from their homes.
Paddle boats, including Kaptein Anna, were used to carry out the evacuations and the return journeys as well. It was a time when buses and trains were not reliable forms of transport yet. Kaptein Anna also carried out historical tours between 2000 and 2005 which were arranged by Stichting Over Water.
Since being refurbished it has 12 cabins and 22 beds with their own bathrooms and showers, perfect for a few days of historical entertainment for the connoisseur.
