Although Dutch offshore-focused shipping and shipbuilding may have taken a downturn, nominations for the Offshore Support Journal Awards prove they are still at the top of their game.
At the annual awards gala, which takes place 8 and 9 February in London, nine awards will be presented:
- the Support Vessel of the Year,
- the Shipowner of the Year,
- the Innovation of the Year,
- the Environmental Award,
- the Offshore Renewables Award,
- the Subsea Innovation Award,
- the Dynamic Positioning Award,
- the Lifetime Achievement Award, and
- the Industrial Leader Award.
Support Vessel of the Year
It is mostly the Dutch that battle for the Support Vessel of the Year, as the four nominees concern Dutch designs or customers.
- First nominee is the ALP Striker, a large and powerful long distance towing vessel. The vessel was built for Rotterdam towing company ALP Marine Services, currently a subsidiary of the Canadian Teekay. The ALP Striker was built by Japanese Niigata and is equipped with Ulstein’s X-Bow.
- Number two is the Pioneering Spirit, with which Allseas’ Edward Heerema saw his long kept dream come true: a super ship that can lift large offshore platforms in one go.
- The third nominee is the Damen built Maersk Connector, an offshore installation vessel.
- Final nominee is Rotterdam-based Red Box Energy Services’ Audax, an icebreaking heavy transport vessel that can deliver oil and gas installations to Siberia.
Other Dutch Nominees
The Shipowner of the Year award sees another Dutch nominee: Vroon Offshore Services. Rotterdam-based Barge Master is one of our nominees for the Offshore Renewables Award.
