Each year, SWZ Maritime takes a closer look at a particular country's maritime industry. After among others Russia, Singapore and Norway, this time we look south and a lot closer to home to Belgium.
Belgium said goodbye to its shipbuilding industry, but its shipping, dredging, port and ship design sectors remain very much alive. In this special issue, we look into the history and loss of the country's shipbuilding industry and its booming shipping industry and the families behind them.
In addition, both engine manufacturer ABC and dredging company Jan De Nul Group gives a glimpse behind the scenes of how they do business and the special (dual-fuel) engines (ABC) and ships (Jan De Nul) they develop. Finally, Zeeland Seaports and the Port of Ghent's plan to investigate a merger and Multi NV's Nicolas Van Goeye discusses his maritime career in a new edition of Knowledge Accumulation.
