On 31 October, the Dutch maritime highlight of the year takes place: the Maritime Awards Gala. SWZ Maritime's October issue dives into all five awards and its nominees.

Once again five awards will be presented at the Maritime Awards Gala: the Maritime Innovation Award, the Maritime Designer Award, the Royal Netherlands Navy Van Hengel-Spengler Award, the KVNR Shipping Award and the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award.

The nominees for the awards are:

Maritime Innovation Award

  • IHC IQIP – Integrated Monopile Installer
  • Tideman Boats – Fast HDPE workboats
  • Van Oord – Strategic Partnership Van Oord Fleet

Maritime Designer Award

  • Etienne Duchateau (Dept. Maritime Systems of the Defence Materiel Organisation) – A method for an interactive and controllable exploration of ship concepts
  • Justin Rietveld (Damen Shipyards Gorinchem) – A new concept for the offshore decommissioning industry

Royal Netherlands Navy Van Hengel-Spengler Award

  • Ensign (LTZ 3 (TD)) Louis Elling – Research into whether the Interacting Multiple Model – Extended Kalman Filter (IMM-EKF) can be applied in tracking systems
  • Roderik Vogels MSc – Research into predicting the roll motion of submarines sailing on the surface
  • Ensign (LTZ 3 (TD)) Sietske Vredeveldt – Research into the improvement of the chairs on board FRISC

KVNR Shipping Award

  • Csmart – Holland America Line's new Arison Maritime Center (a simulator centre that mimicks the bridge layout of Holland America Line's newest cruise vessel Koningsdam)
  • MedAssist – Software developed by Emergency Control – Maritime Training BV that offers vital medical skills with videos and photographs for crew out at sea

KNVTS Ship of the Year Award

  • Sailing yacht Aquijo
  • Fishing vessel MDV 1 Immanuel
  • Motor yacht Savannah
