To stress that the maritime industry is ready to face environmental and social challenges, Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) set out to collect as many examples of sustainable maritime solutions as possible. This resulted in 178 different maritime solutions that were presented on the Dutch Sustainability Day on 10 October.

The solutions were presented to Salima Belhaj (member of Dutch Parliament) and Brigit Gijsbers (director of maritime affairs at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment) on board the Borelli, and inland shipping vessel that has been converted with among other things diesel electric propulsion.

Sustainability is NMT's theme for 2016 and the organisation does not just strive to show the sector's potential where it comes to sustainability, but also hopes to stimulate awareness and point out market opportunities for its members. The 178 sustainable solutions are one of the ways to do this. The solutions are gathered on the website www.sustainable-maritime-solutions.nl, which will be updated continuously.
