(With video) China boasts a new feat of hydraulic engineering: the world's largest ship lift at China's Three Gorges Dam. The vertical-hoisting elevator is designed to lift a total weight of 15,500 tonnes by up to 113 metres.
The lift is equipped with a ship-chamber, which holds water of 120 metres long, 18 metres wide and 3.5 metres deep. The system has been designed by Germand and Chinese engineers and after tests in May and July 2016, the system is now in operation.
