The jury of the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award has presented its three nominees from the eight ships that entered for the award.
The KNVTS Ship of the Year Award will be presented for the nineteenth time during the eleventh Maritime Awards Gala at Studio 21 in Hilversum, the Netherlands Monday 31 October.
The nominees are (in alphabetical order):
- Yacht Aquijo: designed and built by Oceanco in Alblasserdam and Vitters Shipyard in Zwartsluis.
- Fishing boat MDV1 Immanuel: designed and built by Hoekman Shipbuilding in Urk and Padmos in Stellendam.
- Yacht Savannah: designed and built by Feadship/Royal de Vries Shipbuilding BV in Aalsmeer.
‘The nominated boats distinguish themselves with their own specific features, which does not make the final selection process any easier,’ said jury chairman Arie Peterse. ‘Experience shows that the presentations by the nominated companies can play a decisive role in the jury's decision.’
Criteria
Ships eligible for the Ship of the Year Award in 2016 have to have been developed in the Netherlands, in particular with respect to their innovative aspects, and preferably been constructed or largely outfitted in the Netherlands. The ship has to have been delivered between 1 May 2015 and 1 May 2016. The jury assesses the submitted ships on the criteria Design, Economics, Sustainability, Safety and Building process.
Diverse Entries
This year, the entries for the award consisted of a wide variety of vessel types. Unfortunately, the category inland shipping was missing this year. ‘Although more ships could have entered for the award, the ships that did enter are very diverse and form a good representation of the variety Dutch shipbuilding has to offer,’ Peterse continues.
