SWZ Maritime's summer edition features a special on electrical engineering. Electrical systems are ever more important in maritime industry. Topics discussed in this issue include condition monitoring, DC power, D&A Electric's frequency-controlled, diesel-electric power train, the use of batteries, the hybrid business case and ICT safety standards on board the cyber-enabled ship.

In addition, we have started a new returning topic: accumulating knowledge. For this subject, we will interview people who have been working in maritime industry for some years now and have switched jobs once or twice. With them, we'll discuss how their knowledge has accumulated since the start of their career and how this relates to the education they received. The July/August issue features the first interview of this series with Jop Paauw, who started his career with Royal IHC, but switched to Van Oord.

Other articles include a report of the "Kamper kogge's" sailing trip to Denmark and an introduction to the upcoming SMM, the world's largest maritime trade fair to take place 6-9 September in Hamburg, Germany.
