(With video) Recently, the world's largest offshore wind farm installation vessel, the Seajacks Scylla, was named just before leaving for its first job.
The Scylla is the largest installation jack-up on the market and is targeted at the offshore wind and oil and gas markets. The vessel can handle XL monopiles, jacket foundations, and is able to transport a number of 7 and 8 MW turbines that are currently available in the wind market at once.
The vessel's first job at Veja Mate offshore wind farm will see it installing 67 XL monopiles, each exceeding 1300 tonnes in weight. Scylla's next contract will commence in 2017 for DONG Energy at the Walney Extension offshore wind farm.
105 Metre Long Legs
Sailing at speeds of 12 knots or over, Scylla is outfitted with 105 metre long legs which give the ability to install components in water depths in excess of 65 metres (North Sea conditions). The Scylla is equipped with a Huisman 1500 t leg-encircling crane and has useable deck space of up to 5000 m² and 8800 t of available variable load.
The video below contains footage of the naming ceremony accompanied by commentary of Seajacks' CEO Blair Ainslie.
